Lectors

“When the Scriptures are read in the Church, God himself is speaking to his people, and Christ, present in his own word, is proclaiming the gospel. The readings of God’s word must therefore be listened to by all with reverence; they make up a principal element of the liturgy. In the biblical readings, God’s word addresses all people of every era and is understandable to them, and a fuller understanding and efficacy are fostered by a living commentary on it, that is to say, by the homily, understood as an integral part of the liturgical action (General Instruction of the Roman Missal, no. 29).”

Proclaiming the Word of God at Mass is a ministry of great importance.  For this reason, we need people who feel the call to commit themselves to serve God and the people of the parish through this ministry.

Lectors are trained to proclaim the Word of God in such a way as to be heard and understood by all present. Our lectors are scheduled approximately every three weeks, and are able to choose the Mass time that they prefer.

If you are interested in serving Mass in the capacity of a Lector, please contact Raymond Cournoyer, by calling the parish at (413) 538-9475 ext. 107.
